I'm The Featured Speaker. What Should I Talk About?
Your first presentation should be to give the group information to know you better, such as education, recent experience, how long you have lived in the area, why you chose this profession. This will help the group to remember you as a person.
Then tell us about your present job and what you do, and about your company and its services and products.
Next, tell us why you and your company are better choices than your competitors.
Pass out your cards and the company brochures and any promotional material.
You can if you want and time permits or at your next presentation, use your time for brainstorming to have the group give you ideas how to get more leads and market yourself. Refer to the guide that the Chamber prepared for this purpose. This method works really well because everyone wants to help and they start thinking about what you do, which reinforces their memory about what you do.
Don't be surprised in the future if someone in the group asks you if you do something, which is the main part of your business, which you told everyone before, and the person says, "I didn't know that you did that." It happens a lot. People forget or just don't listen. Your presentation and regular meeting attendance and networking will cause everyone eventually to think of you when it comes to what you do.
The next time you can give a technical presentation on some aspect of your service of product, such as different types of services or products you provide and the pros and cons of each, to show that you are an expert in your field, to build confidence in you. This often leads to questions and triggers a memory that associates you with the topic when someone has or mentions a need, so you can get a referral.
You will have about 25 minutes. It goes by quickly, so do not plan to make us experts in your field on your first time.
Don't be discouraged if you do not get any or many leads at first. Sometimes no one has the present need for your services or they just need to build confidence in you before they trust you enough to use you or give you referrals and leads. Sometimes it may take many months before you get a meaningful referral from the group. The more leads and referrals you give, the more you will get, because people will remember your good leads and referrals and will try to reciprocate.
